Dmytro Choni, 2018

Dmytro Choni was born in 1993 in Kiev, Ukraine. At the age of four he received his first piano lesson from Galina Zaslavets. From 2004 to 2011 he studied under Nina Naidich, and then until 2016 under Prof. Yuri Kot. Since 2015 he has been a student of Prof. Milana Chernyavska at the internationally renowned University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.

He has already made a name for himself at international competitions by winning first prize on several occasions, such as in 2016 at the International Piano CompetitionTribute to Jurica Murai in Croatia, in the same year at the Concurso Internacional de Piano de Tucumán in Argentina; and in 2017 at The Roma International Piano Competition in Italy. He was also a prize winner of the 61st Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in 2017. This year, before winning the ZF Music Award, he has already taken 1st place in the Los Angeles International Piano Competition in the USA. Since 2011 he is a scholar of the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein.

Dmytro Choni has taken master classes under such notable teachers as Prof. Arie Vardi, Sergei Babayan, Prof. Pavel Gililov, Prof. Klaus Hellwig, Prof. Grigory Gruzman, Aquiles delle Vigne, Prof. Yakov Kasman, and Oxana Yablonskaya. As a soloist he has already played with numerous renowned orchestras such as the Suzhou Symphony Orchestraunder Alain Paris, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine under Volodymyr Sirenko and Vitaliy Protasov, the Tambov Philharmonic Orchestra under Mikhail Leontyev, and the Varazdin Chamber Orchestra. In addition, chamber music plays an important role in Dmytro Chonis’ life as a creative artist. For example, he has already made appearances with various ensembles at international chamber music festivals. Up to now performances and engagements at the Kissinger Sommer have taken him to Germany, at the FESTIVAL NEXT GENERATION to Switzerland, at the Harmonie Starego Miasta to Poland, and at the International Festival Kyiv Summer Music Evenings to the Ukraine.
