Biography

Herbert Schuch was born in 1979 in Timisoara/Romania, where he took first piano lessons with Maria Bodo. Briefly before the collapse of the communist regime, his family moved to Germany. There, he first studied with Kurt Hantsch in Rosenheim; then, at the age of twelve, he was accepted by the Salzburg Mozarteum for the class of Karl-Heinz Kämmerling.

In 2004 Herbert Schuch won the ZF Musik Award in Friedrichshafen. 2004/2005, Herbert Schuch was recognized at the Casagrande piano competition in Terni, at the London International Piano Competition, as well as at the International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna with the 1st prize, respectively. Subsequently, he gave his debut at the Vienna Music Association under the musical direction of Pierre Boulez with the Beethoven 5th piano concert. Ever since, Herbert Schuch has been working i.a. with orchestras such as the Radio-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt, the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken/Kaiserslautern, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Camerata Salzburg, the Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, the Orchestre National de Lyon, and he is a regular guest of festivals, such as the Rheingau Musik Festival, the Kissinger Sommer, or the Klavier-Festival Ruhr.

In 2005, his debut CD with pieces of Schumann and Ravel was published by the Label OehmsClassics. In 2008, he published his recordings of Schubert piano sonatas G major D 894 and a minor D 537, as well as Helmut Lachenmann’s “Fünf Variationen über ein Thema von Schubert” and “Guero”. Since March 2009, Herbert Schuch’s third CD production with “Nachtstücke” is on sale.

In addition to his concert activities, Herbert Schuch is committed to the “Rhapsody in School” organization he founded together with Lars Vogt; the organization works on transferring the idea and concept of classical music in schools. Between 1996 and 2006, he was also a member of the “Live Music Now” club founded by Yehudin Menuhin.
